Parents do an incredible job! They have to deal with unbelievably complex situations, often with little real preparation. I remember, for example, the first time that I had to clean up some of my kids' vomit. I didn't have a clue! No one had ever taught me what to do. I didn't know what cleaning products to use; whether to let it dry so I could vacuum it or whether to scrub it and risk it working it into the carpet. And what to do with the crying baby in the meantime? These are not lessons that I did in school.
Because of that, we all make mistakes. It's an integral part of parenting. So don't beat yourself up for your mistakes. You're a human. Do your best and beyond that, accept that you're imperfect. And I know that's not always easy to do, so if you're struggling with that, contact me.
In the meantime, here are some essays that you may find helpful.
